Tag Tuesday-The Lady Janies Book Tag

Happy Tuesday everyone, I’m typing this post up super late because, well, I’m a procrastinator. Also I hurt my wrist somehow and it is pretty uncomfortable to type but I’m suffering through and typing this post with a brace on it just for you! So I really hope you like it. I was tagged by the lovely LaRonda over at Flying Paperbacks to do this fun tag and although I haven’t read the books, I’m doing it anyways. Besides, if I let the fact that I haven’t read the book stop me from doing the tag, I wouldn’t be able to do like any tags haha. It was originally created by Rebecca and Ellyn, so go check them out!

The Diviners(The Diviners 01) by Libba Bray

I know, I know, you guys are probably so sick of hearing me mention this book but I CAN’T HELP IT! It’s such a recent read so it’s fresh in my mind and I loved everything about it. I haven’t mentioned it yet but there is a gay character in it, he isn’t one of the main characters in the first book, however he takes a role front and center in book two. I won’t talk any more about this one because I think I’ve gushed about it enough on here in the past month—plus you guys still have my full review of the book to look forward to..whenever I write it up..

 

Lady Jane Grey-A short book that packed a punch

Nimona by Noelle Stevenson

My go to answer for this one is normally The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky—I will go to my death bed recommending that book, I swear—but I’m going to mix it up and go with Nimona. This is a graphic novel that clocks in at 266 pages, so even though it is technically longer than Perks, it’s a graphic novel so it definitely takes less time to read it. I loved this book so much, the first half is pretty light and funny, but the second half takes a turn and goes in a darker and more serious direction. I may have even shed a few tears because it packed that much of an unexpected punch for me.

 

Jane Austen-Favourite heroine in a classic book

..I don’t really have an answer for this one. I haven’t read a ton of classics—although I do love them—and the ones that I have read haven’t had very many good female characters.

Calamity Jane-Your most anticipated release

Fire and Blood by George R.R. Martin

If you don’t know this about me already, you should, the A Song of Ice and Fire series is my all time favourite series. So realistically, my most anticipated release ever is book six in that series, Winds of Winter, however, that doesn’t even have a for sure release date—seriously it’s changed so many times that thinking about it makes me want to cry—so I’m going with the next best thing. Fire and Blood is a Targaryen history and it’s set 300 years before the GoT world we know, when dragons ruled Westeros. I am DYING to get my hands on this book..like seriously, it releases two days before my birthday and November cannot come fast enough.

Jane Fonda-A character that upholds feminist ideals

Lady Helen from the Dark Days Club(Lady Helen 01) by Alison Goodman

Man oh man, did I ever have a hard time coming up with an answer for this one but as soon as I thought of Lady Helen, I knew I had my answer. This book is set in the 1800s, in a time where women didn’t have a whole lot of say in what happened in their life. Well Helen Wrexhall broke all the boundaries and literally risked everything throughout the course of this book. She’s headstrong, curious and incredibly intelligent and well read compared to her peers. If you haven’t heard of this series, I would highly recommend it—although, I have only read book one—but I thoroughly enjoyed it. It follows Lady Helen starting on the eve of her 18th birthday when one of her housekeepers disappears. From there she meets Lord Carlston, who shows her the dark side of Regency London, full of seedy establishments and demons that are infiltrating every level of society. She must decide whether to trust him and work together, or run and stay far away from this Lord with a tarnished reputation.

Jane Krakowski-An underrated book you think more people should read

Insomnia(The Night Walkers 01) by J.R. Johannson

You guys, I reeeeeally wanted to say The Diviners again for this prompt but I’m going to refrain—well sort of, because I still just mentioned it—and I’m going to go with a series that I haven’t completed yet but remember loving. This is a trilogy following Parker Chipp, who hasn’t had a proper sleep in four years and is close to his breaking point, mentally and physically. Instead of sleeping, he enters the dreams of the last person he made eye contact with, and he’s pretty sure that if he doesn’t find a way to stop it soon, he will die. Then Mia comes along and her dreams are calm and uncomplicated which allows Parker to get the rest he needs. But what started out as a chance meeting, soon becomes an obsession and when someone starts threatening Mia, Parker’s blackouts have him doubting his own innocence. I’ve literally never heard another person talk about this book/series and when I read the first book, I loved it. I do think it has mixed reviews on Goodreads but I really enjoyed it. I did read the first book in this series back in 2014, so it has definitely been a while and like I said, I haven’t read the last book in the series yet. I’m definitely still interested in it, but I do think I will have to reread the first two books to finally finish the third.

The Lady Janies-Two or more authors you wish would write a book together

I actually don’t have an answer for this one either, all the people that I think would go well together from a story standpoint are all authors that I haven’t read yet so I can’t really say I wish that they would write a book together. This isn’t anything I ever think about but the only authors I could come up with were John Green and Laurie Halse Anderson. They both write contemporary YA that deal with tough topics and I feel like their style could maybe work together, but yeah, I wouldn’t say that I wish they would write one together.
